The Invisible War In Marriage Pt. 4: Dressed and Ready for Battle

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace, above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one, And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints- Ephesians 6:13-18

By now if you have been following the Invisible War In Marriage Parts 1-3 then I'm sure that you would agree when I make the statement: "We Are At War!"

I really want you to let those words sink in. If your reading this post, "The Invisible War In Marriage Pt. 4: Dressed and Ready for Battle" and you have not first read The Invisible War In Marriage Pt. 1: Knowing Your Enemy then you should.

Hosea 4: 6 says, My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

2 Corinthians 2:11 says, "...lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.

other translations for the word devices (schemes, wiles, intentions, thoughts, plans, and strategies)

Each of these words are important to look because they give us more understanding about the devils ways

Let's look at each of them...

1. devices- a plan, scheme, or trick with a particular aim.
2. schemes- make plans, especially in a devious way or with intent to do something illegal or wrong.
3. wiles- devious or cunning stratagems employed in manipulating or persuading someone to do what one wants.
4. intentions- a thing intended; an aim or plan.
5. thoughts- an idea or opinion by thinking or occurring suddenly in the mind.
6. plans- a detailed proposal for doing or achieving something. an intention or decision about what one is going to do.
7. strategies- a plan of action or policy designed to achieve a major or overall aim. a plan for military operations and movements during a war or battle.

The main word that each of these words have in common is the word "plan"

Satan is a planner. In a very good one  at that. (if I can say that- because there's no good in him). So keep this in mind. We have a real enemy, and it's not the people in your life. It's the devil.

I'm sure you heard the saying "knowledge is power!" But that's really not true. Knowledge in of itself is just that...knowledge. Meaning you and I can read stuff all day long and what we read never make a difference in our lives. It's only when we read with the intentions of applying it to our life that the knowledge that we put into practice becomes power to and for us.

Lets review Hosea 4:6  again...but this time looking at the rest of the verse.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

Did you hear that?

#1 Ignorance (not knowing) destroys people. I might add not knowing the right information.
#2 Rejecting (knowing) or knowledge brings about destruction and rejection from God Himself.
#3 Forgetting (knowledge) the type of knowledge as in the case of this verse is (Gods law) or His word, the Bible, causing God Himself to forget not only people but their children.

Now I know this was specifically speaking to the people in Hosea's day. However the same truth and consequences apply to us in our day and time.

Remember this...

The enemy will destroy you in any area where you lack knowledge. - Guillermo Maldonado

So we can't afford to be ignorant!

Habakkuk 2:14 says, For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

God doesn't want His people to be ignorant. He wants to reveal Himself to us in all areas of our lives. Not one place in life is to be void of the knowledge of His glory. Amen

Remember knowledge becomes power only when it is put into practice.

In other words...

If your reading this it's because you need to and God wanted you to know it. So take serious all that your reading and put it into practice. That's the key to being an overcomer in life!

"Study to show yourself approved...- 2 Timothy 2:15

Back to the War!

The above scripture Ephesians 6: 13-18 gives some very clear instructions that we are to put into practice on a daily basis. It's addressing the armor of God. This is the "equipment" that are you are to put on each day when you arise. In should never take it off!

How so?

Because it's your spiritual clothing.

Let's review...

The first thing the verse of scripture says is to  take up the whole armor of God. In other words you can't expect someone else to do it for you. Not even God Himself can help you. He commands us to do it.

The second thing is it tells you why you are to do this so that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. In other words, I repeat you have a real enemy (not your spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend, family  member, co-worker, or boss, etc) - its the devil. Also you must be aware and prepared in the "evil day"- meaning the days, the culture, world we live in is full of evil and darkness believe it or not so you need to be always ready with that understanding in your mind.

Scripture meditation and prayer:

Ephesians 5: 15-16 says, See then that you walk circumspectly- (cautiously, sensitively, carefully) not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Also speaks of taking up the armor to have the ability to withstand.

withstand - remain undamaged or unaffected by; resist. offer strong resistance or opposition to (someone or something). stand, tolerate, survive, endure, bear, defy, brave

The Bible says in Matthew 6:34 "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." Each and every day you must stand firm fully clothed in your armor being ready for the expected as well as the unexpected.

The third thing is how you should stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth. In other words, your spiritual posture is of the greatest importance when in the battle. Remember you are fighting a spiritual war, not one of flesh and blood.

Scripture meditation and prayer:

2nd Corinthians 10:3,4 says "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (or of the flesh) but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,

In order to address the spiritual warfare around us everyday, you must be well equipped with the truth of God's word. God's voice must become a familiar one to you. Just like your spouse' voice or your children. The more quality time that you spend each day in God's presence reading, and meditating on the word of God you will be more prepared and ready for whatever comes your way.

The armor of God is whats needed to fight successfully in this invisible battle that surrounds us on a daily basis. The next time we will look at the final four pieces of armor that you must wear everyday to be victorious.
